Summary:
Australian carpet dyeing basics guide Resource for personal & business reference covers costs, basics of experiences, some need to know info and other general info most businesses try to hide.

About our DIY carpet dyeing solutions:
Having been in the color restoration and carpet maintenance business for over 30 years each, we have seen almost every situation related to colour, fabric and carpet spot problems.

We developed a unique carpet dyeing kit for these specific problems. It is easy to use, and sent to you for your specific problem. It will contain a custom color to match your spots with your particular carpet color thereby potentially saving you hundreds or thousands of dolllars.

A word of caution:
Unfortunately, all dyestuffs used in carpet are susceptible to bleaching, as are those used in most other textile products. If a spill of benzoyl peroxide containing product occurs. The area should be immediately cleaned by using liberal amounts of WATER. Spots detected in their early stages can also be treated with ammonia to stop further bleaching, although the process cannot be reversed. AND it should be also noted that ammonia will in even small conentrations bleach wool.

Did you know?

Many types of carpets can be dyed including Polyester, polypropylene, and acrylic cannot be dyed by normal carpet dyers. However the team and I at The ausis Group we over many years developed a special system to enable the ability to dye these and your other furnishings as close to your desired colours as possible.

An extract from our instructional dyeing manual for our teams of colour restorers

A big tip if your interested in becoming a colour restoration technician or just want to do it yourself as a hobby:

At this point we would like to impress upon you that you should be testing as much carpet as often as possible even if at home and don’t feel that you are wasting it as you are increasing your colour skills to enable a speedier consult and job by knowing which colours can go with which to make or simulate another colour; many cases there is more than one way to skin a cat or in this case make a colour as you can see below we have given some common colours and recipes however with time and testing you will come across more varied and easier ways to get the colours for your clients.

The phone call and consult

Many people do not fully understand colour, so over the phone even video phones do not always show the right colour, they might tell you they want pink but they actually want salmon or violet this is why you should always go out & test & quote (henceforth referred to as a COLOUR CONSULTATION or consult) with a full kit of dyes & then go to the job with a full set of dyes.

When the person is on the phone prior to the consult; advise them of the consult cost and ask them to think about the colours they could want and have a colour in mind, when you get there.  Also try to determine if the house / job is a fair distance away try to get a commitment on whether the job can be done there and then especially if only 1 room;

Try to group consults it makes no sense running round to 1 house 1 day and back again to the same area the next; bleach marks unless a large number are done. On a consult basis no manual work is done advise the client it will be from $90 but could go as high as $160 or more however the average is $90 most of the time.

In a recent conference with Consumer Affairs they advised us it is a good idea to get a credit card number whilst on the phone to the client and advise them you will be charging a fee for a consult which will act like a deposit, we found that quite often we were running around wasting our money doing consults and other people were getting hundreds of $$ for this, more to follow.

As many of you may know as you are or have been involved in public relations at some point of your life you should whilst having any dealing with the client be Honest, Professional, courteous, helpful, confident, informative, and friendly but not over friendly and most important of all do not complain about your ailments politics or religion etc.

When going to perform a dye job you will need to know some basic maths one of the formulas we use is below in a simplified format.

DYE BATCHES
0.5 1 2 3 4 5
0.5ml 10 20 40 60 80 100

All potential clients are advised this is known across the industry and as such all clients are advised of this.
